BADLAND HUNTERS

Really enjoyed this.

One of those films that just dives in to the action. So we start with the end of the world and go from there. A little bit of character introducing then onto the violence and mayhem.

Apocalypse. Mad scientist. Bunch of soldiers. Crazy experiments. Likeable hero with a troublesome past. Plenty of action and gore.

Standard fare for an end of the world movie really but all done with a lot of fun and charm and Don Lee is ace. His fights always seem so brutal.

Nothing new, big or clever but a jolly enjoyable one off watch in its genre.

HEAD ON A PLATE

I’ve no idea what to make of that. it’s either a psychedelic masterpiece or a pile of pretentious arse wank.

thankfully, I’m tripping so was totally mesmerised by the long slow periods of nothing happening but with some dirty underlying drones and subdued sounds on the soundtrack.

Almost no talking, thank gawd as they were all corny actors or, were they supposed to be to enhance the silent moments?

I dunno what they were thinking making it or what they were aiming for or anything but if they were aiming to make a film that some rando would come across while high as shit and watch it and be mesmerised by the sounds and unable to get off their arse and turn it off.

BRAVO!

Probably shit if you’re straight but it weirdly hit a spot tonight with it’s nothing much to see or hear but all droning cyclically along at a meandering and bewildering pace.

M3GAN

Yeah, another good un.

You always knew this was going to end badly but it was decidedly creepy and unsettling too.

It built the tension up over the course of the whole film that when a bad thing happened it was almost a relief from the waiting for something to happen because you never knew when she was going to flip her lid.

Jolly well made and enjoyable film that had me glued to the screen.

Oh, it did also have shades of a Black Mirror episode.

NOPE

I did eventually enjoy this but it took me a while as I didn’t like anyone in it. The main guy just seemed a bit of a dick and she was annoying. but once the weird shit kicked in it got a lot better and I could put up with them by then.

It’s biggest thing though was the use of sound, it was pinpoint accurate in all 5 speakers, the subwoofer was in overdrive with all the frikkin’ bass and the otherworldly sounds and creaks and groans and swirling winds were very unsettling indeed. And it was LOUD. Without this excellent use of sound I don’t think I’d have enjoyed it half as much.

Definitely too long but I think that’s cos the beginning dragged out too much and it was borderline tedium at points so they should have cut all that out and just got on with it.

A few issues with random bits of the story too that just seemed odd or implausible (the fuck is motorbike guy all about??!!!) or pointless and the ending seemed a tad lame or silly but once I was immersed in that soundscape they created I was happy enough to go along for the ride.

Definitely preferred this to his other two films but then, they didn’t have this freaky ass amazing sound and unlike the previous two, in this one, once you find out what’s going on, it doesn’t go downhill from there.

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE

Absolutely bloody magnificent.

What a thoroughly intelligent film that seemed to spend its entire run time revelling in its subject. A fascinating, clever, witty and thought provoking journey into alternate universes and chaos and cause and effect and etc…

Michelle Yeoh was fantastic in her role(s) and although one isn’t keen on her to start with, it’s the perfect set up for her character to develop from…she also wears cool cardigans

A very beautiful and mesmerising film to look at, an absolute feast for the mind and not to mention absolutely hilarious at times, even if just for the sheer audacity of the things the writers came up with.

One of the best films I’ve seen in donkey’s years.

LIGHTYEAR

Thoroughly enjoyed this.

A rip stonking space adventure that made me laugh a fair bit, cry a few times and I even cheered now and again.

The cat was awesome.

Very different to the other Toy Story films but all the better for not being another rehash of the same old thing.

Nice one, again, Pixar.

PREY

I enjoyed this a heck of a lot more than I expected. Not a patch on the original obviously because nothing ever can be but it held its own quite nicely. With the odd cheeky nod backwards to the original.

I wasn’t too keen on everything around the fighting/Predator bits and my attention wavered at times but once it kicked in, the action was pretty darned exciting and the surround sound was ace and it all looked bloody lovely. It was also jolly gory 🙂

Don’t know if it’s the kind of thing I’ll watch again but it’s well worth a one off.
